Meager Dole to the Poor won’t Reinstate those Apparent Halcyon Days

Image
(Pic Credit: Google Images) The marketing slogan  ‘India Shining’ used by   the  BJP  during the 2004 election campaign,  continues to meet with colossal disfiguration as the country is experiencing an economic slump owing to the reckless rampage of the unseen virus. The glaring contrast in the living realities between the poor and the rich in India is a thorn in the flesh of our ‘booming’ economy. The pensive passivity towards the lion share of the population consisting of the poor class and the obsolete economic policies introduced by consecutive governments have widened the gap between these two extreme classes. The present government has been accused of being an instrument in writing off  a staggering amount of Rs 68,607 crores due from 50 top wilful defaulters till September 30, 2019. However, this startling revelation includes only the amount due from the super-rich defaulters from India, not those from overseas. These duplicitous defau...

‘Social Distancing’: A Well-Crafted Stratagem to Cordon off the Exiling Horde

(Pic Courtesy: Google Images) I pen this piece not to find fault with the Governments both in the center and the states, or about the right wing or the left-wing political figures who have played ample roles in inflicting miseries after miseries to the soul of the Nation. It is neither about Mr. Modi; an example par excellence of being a persona non grata nor the Biblical scale sufferings he has inflicted, yet again, on the people who blindly trusted his charisma. This is not about the apparently elected and reelected politicians with the rictus of arrogance stretched across their faces. This is not about the inept judges who dared to throw away the moral compass in the arid deserts of ambitions and personal gains. It is also not about the bureaucrats who shamelessly engage in Faustian bargain,...

Lurking Behind the Veil of Lock-down

Image
A fifty meters stroll, at least fifteen times a day between the courtyard and the hedge, that was rather a monotonous routine he developed during the unprecedented lock-down. That wasn’t good enough to kill the time, but helpless days stretched further with no end whatsoever. After this ceremonial and droning stroll across the lane-way he would sit over some random stones chasing the mosquitoes rampant all around and would rejoice over the number of killings. He would gladly count each mosquito which would meet a tragic end between his rough palms and laugh hilariously at his achievement. Rest of the time was spent on scratching on the broken display of his Samsung mobile, trying to browse through WhatsApp forwards. People have nothing else to spread except ‘on Corona’, and that had badly affected the variety forwarded messages too. Whenever he saw his wife’s face, he would yell at her, pouring down his anger and distress on that innocent women who has always been in ‘lock-down’ ...

Mother’s (Father’s) Son

Image
Rani looked at the mirror closely, trying to catch a proper glimpse of her pale face. The white sari that adorned her slender body projected out like a bundle of white polyester cloth shabbily draped around. Her attire alluded to her state of mind, and the people around imprisoned her in the dark room of the widowhood. Her eyes were dark pools of fear and apprehension about the future days to come. However, her only son Unni’s smile kept her weary eyes burning with hope and courage to face the life ahead. Her husband had a violent and ignominious death in the hands of an affluent and rich man from the town. The police convinced Rani to refrain from pursuing the case against such goons, as they found it futile to fight against them. They made her to believe that justice often shied away from such assailants.   Rani knew about her husband’s fight against the corrupted rich class in the society, but was unaware of the impending danger he had already brought upon him. Her husband’s...
