‘God in the Form of a Boar’

John was almost panting, struggling to catch his breath, suddenly he hears from afar the sound of the horse hooves. The sun has just popped his head from a long slumber making the visibility opaque through the misty forest. He was sure, the commotion was of the Prince with his band of soldiers racing ahead in search of his love. The clip clop sound of the horses seems to speed up John’s heart beats resembling to wild drum beats. However, he refused to succumb to the fear as he hid behind a huge tree. As he held his breath tight, the horses began to appear in the pale light, and there were men in arms mounted on the horses heading towards their terminus in vigor. When the horses embraced his clear visibility, John was horrified by the scene. The horses were laden with corpse of men, the blood oozed out of those lifeless bodies drenching the soil beneath. John, frozen with fear let out a loud cry, which was rather involuntary and stupid. The moving horses stopped as if their bridles were hauled abruptly. The only man alive and led the horses laded with the corpses, was bothered by the horses’ abrupt halt. John knew that he was going to be caught red handed and he might be added on to the pile of the dead bodies. In silence he blamed his imprudent decision to escape to the woods.
John wondered for a while if these were going to be his last moments and decided to try his luck. The only way out to escape the situation was to flee the scene. But he knew for sure that even a slightest movement can put him in great danger. It was inevitable for him to be extra prudent and vigilant. The man who dismounted the horse to verify the possibility of any intruders in his path began examining the corpses to find, if any signs of life left in those inert bodies. Suddenly a thought flashed in John’s mind, when he was busy with his theft in the Baron’s house, he heard the inmates say the Prince was looking for a charming girl who almost won his heart and disappeared, leaving behind a glass shoe. But contrary to his expectation, instead of the Prince, there he has a pile of dead bodies spilling with warm blood. As he was trying to reconcile the horrifying sight before him with his expectation of the Prince in search of his lost love, suddenly there came a wild boar charging towards the string of horses raising them on their hind legs. The boar cut apart the startled horses growling loudly and disappeared into the thick bushes. For a moment John lost his senses, while trying to regain his senses he realized that the wild boar saved his life from the impending sword of the soldier. For the first time in his life, he uttered in his mind a prayer of thanksgiving to an unknown god whom he never believed in. A sigh of relief came out of him as he saw the horses moving away, ‘Yes, god can also come in the form of a boar’.
